Objectifs

  • Connaître et utiliser correctement les pronoms personnels sujets et compléments.

  • Maîtriser la formation et les emplois des pronoms réfléchis (réfléchi, emphatique, expressions figées).

  • Distinguer les pronoms réciproques each other et one another.

  • Éviter les erreurs fréquentes liées aux calques du français (verbes non réfléchis en anglais, confusion entre them et themselves, etc.).

Tableau général des pronoms personnels

En anglais, les pronoms personnels changent de forme selon leur fonction dans la phrase. On distingue :

  • Le pronom sujet : il réalise l’action du verbe.
  • Le pronom complément : il reçoit l’action du verbe ou suit une préposition.
  • Le pronom réfléchi : il renvoie au sujet lui-même.
  • L’adjectif possessif : il indique l’appartenance et est toujours suivi d’un nom.
  • Le pronom possessif : il remplace un nom déjà connu.
À retenir :
Ne pas confondre :
  • my + nom → my book
  • mine seul → This book is mine.

Exemples d’utilisation

Attention :
Les adjectifs possessifs sont toujours suivis d’un nom :

This is their house.
This house is their.

Pour remplacer le nom, on utilise un pronom possessif :
This house is theirs.

Les deux sont acceptables ici, mais older est plus courant. Je proposerai older car elder est vieilli sauf usage très formel. Acceptons les deux.)
